The best bike model for bikejoring?
Most often, biking with a dog takes place on sandy or forest roads or trails, so a mountain bike is usually the best choice. They have a strong frame and rough, grippy tires that increase stability and withstand uneven terrain. The wide handlebars commonly found on mountain bikes also help with bike control. A fatbike can also be a good option, although they are often a bit heavier and roll slower.
Effective brakes are essential for bikejoring
Good brakes are absolutely crucial in bikejoring. If possible, choose a bike with powerful disc brakes so you can stop quickly and in control, even if the dog pulls strongly. Rim brakes can also be effective if properly adjusted. The most important thing is that the brakes are in good condition and work well.
The right size = a stable riding position
Choose a frame size that suits you. With the right-sized bike, you can easily get on and off and maintain a good, natural riding position both sitting and standing while pedaling. The saddle should be set high enough to make pedaling efficient.
Is suspension necessary for bikejoring?
Suspension adds comfort but is not mandatory. Mountain bikes are available without suspension, with front suspension, or full suspension. The key factor is the type of terrain you usually ride on. If you mostly ride with your dog on sandy roads or easy trails, you probably don’t need suspension at all. If you ride more on rooty or rocky trails, suspension will soften the ride.
